Sometimes you have to push the chair back from the table. And if you have been lingering there long (or at other tables around town) you better get a move on and get rid of some of those calories you just consumed.
All the better if you can do that while engaging in an activity that’s actually fun.
For fantastic activity ideas in the Milwaukee area, there’s no better person to turn to than Erin Leffelman.
Erin has tried everything from skydiving and kayaking to the famed “Polar Bear Plunge” (for which, I might add, she gets major props from me as I consider any water under 70 degrees to be cold!), and she documents it all on her blog, Play in the City.
I finally had the opportunity to meet Erin in person last week. We convened at noon at Pizzeria Piccola in Wauwatosa (a.k.a. “Tosa” to the locals).
Although swimsuit season is just around the corner, (It is, right? Please tell me warm weather looms close on our horizon!) I couldn’t resist ordering one of their small pizzas. I was, after all, having lunch with someone who could hook me up with awesome activity advice!
I opted for the classic “Pizza alla Piccola” which like all their pizzas, is an authentic thin-crust Neapolitan pizza made to order and baked in a wood burning oven.
Lightly topped with tomato sauce, provolone, fennel sausage, red onions, mushrooms, and flavorful black olives, the Pizza alla Piccola is always a winner in my book.
But I have to admit that if forced to choose a favorite, I would go for the simple but savory Pizza Margherita, made with tomato sauce and mozzarella, the sprinkled with fresh basil.
Personally, I just can’t ever get enough basil. But you’re not really here to hear about my herb gardening intentions, so I’ll get on with the recount of my meeting with Erin.
Erin bypassed the pizza and paninis and ordered the cavatappi pasta, tossed with sauteed vegetables, mozzarella, marinara sauce, basil, and a dash of parmesan. Then we took the numbered card handed to us by the cashier, and headed upstairs to the small but cozy dining area.
Amazingly, it wasn’t yet overly crowded by the usual lunch-rush, which was great for us. We snagged one of the rough hewn wooden tables right away and didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive.
Over bites of pizza and pasta, Erin and I chatted and I got the inside scoop on life as a blogger in Brew City.
She kindly let me pick her brain about all the little technical quirks I’ve encountered while trying to post, and openly shared some of her most memorable moments from the past year’s activities.
If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out Erin's blog, Play in the City. And of course, be sure to check back here too. Between the two of us, we have your food and adventure for the Milwaukee area covered!
Thanks for the props, Audra! It was great to meet you last week. We'll definitely have to get together for some outdoor adventures - and some more food! - soon. The blog's lookin awesome!

This is one of my favorite places for pizza in mke. I just moved to Madison and I am SURE to always make a stop there when I am back on my old stomping grounds. The margherita is the best - and so is the tiramisu!
