Last night we jetted down to Cathedral Square Park for Bastille Days. Admittedly, I was lured by the prospect of obtaining strawberry crepes, but mostly I wanted to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s (BBVD) performance.
While waiting for night to descend and BBVD to take the stage, we wandered through the crowds, sipped some French wine, watched the fire jugglers, browsed through merchant tents, and sampled the food.
While most of the food vendors were sponsored by local restaurants and offered everything from Mexican to Italian, there was a little pocket offering more French-inspired fare such as crepes, lattes, and beignets (more closely associated with the likes of Café Du Monde in New Orleans rather than France, but given “N’walins” deep ties to the country, it’s okay by me.) I picked up a deliciously light and airy crepe filed with strawberries and sat down near the 43-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower to eat it.
After that we staked out a place about 20 feet from the stage and ten minutes later, BBVD made their entrance, swing dancing couples filled the space in front of the stage, and the show was on! What a fantastic show! I still can’t believe it was free.
Anyway – I have to race to my salon for a haircut, but here are some pictures from last night for you to check out.
Glad you enjoyed BBVD! I really wanted to get there to see them but I just couldn't swing it. No pun intended :)
